Zacapa Rum originates in Guatemala and takes its name from the centenary of the city of Zacapa, celebrated in 1976. It is one of the most recognizable rums in the world, also known as Ron Zacapa Centenario.

What sets it apart from industrial rums is the raw material itself: not molasses, but first‑press sugarcane juice, the miel virgen, obtained from cane grown on Guatemala’s volcanic highlands and cut by hand with a machete. It’s a starting point richer in natural sugars, yielding a softer distillate right from fermentation.

What makes every label in the range instantly recognizable, however, is the aging. The rum ascends to the Casa sopra le Nuvole, at 2,300 meters above sea level, where the cool climate and lower atmospheric pressure slow evaporation and let maturation unfold over time, with no need to force it. Here the blend goes through the solera method—the same technique used for Sherry—moving through different wooden casks before finishing in barrels that previously held Sherry Pedro Ximénez. It’s this combination of altitude and solera that gives Zacapa Rum its rounded, spicy profile, distinct from Caribbean rums aged at sea level.

The range includes several expressions, from Ron Zacapa Centenario Solera 23 to the most sought‑after reserves in the Royal and XO lines: maturation times and the blend of vintages used in solera vary, while the production method and Guatemalan origin remain constant.
