Description
What kind of wine is it
Barbera d’Alba Vignota by Conterno Fantino is a Piedmont red made exclusively from Barbera grapes. It shows a fresh, easy-to-drink profile with balanced structure and measured complexity. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with skin maceration, then the wine matures for about ten months in second-passage barriques. The result offers a fruity, harmonious, and easily accessible character.
Where does it come from
Barbera d’Alba Vignota comes from the vineyards of Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Langhe. The continental climate, with significant temperature swings, enhances the development of aromas, supporting freshness and vibrancy in the flavor profile.
How is it made
The grapes are handpicked between late September and early October, carefully selecting the bunches. After destemming, fermentation takes place in horizontal stainless steel tanks for 6-8 days at controlled temperatures. Maturation continues in second-passage barriques for ten months.
Tasting notes
It displays an intense ruby red color with violet highlights. The aroma features ripe red fruits like cherry and raspberry, with subtle spicy notes and a hint of balsamic. On the palate, it offers balanced structure, lively acidity, and soft tannins. The finish is persistent, with fruity aftertaste and a pleasant sensation.
Best pairings
This wine pairs well with flavorful first courses such as pasta with meat ragù and risotto with mushrooms and sausage. Its lively acidity and soft tannins make it a good match for braised meats and stews. It also goes well with traditional regional dishes.
When to serve it
Barbera d’Alba Vignota is best enjoyed young, within the first 3-5 years, when its freshness and fruity aromas are most pronounced. Its balanced structure and moderate oak use allow it to evolve up to six years, showing delicate spicy notes and greater complexity. It is best served between 16 and 18 °C to enhance its aromatic profile and balance.
