Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo Castelletto by Mauro Veglio is a celebrated red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes. This wine stands out for its well-defined aromatic profile and a structured palate, the result of meticulous vinification in steel and extended ageing in wood. Its stylistic signature is always consistent and recognizable, ensuring a tasting experience of great persistence on the palate, making it an excellent companion for intense dishes.

Where it comes from

The grapes come entirely from the renowned Castelletto area, a vast winegrowing region located between the municipality of Monforte d’Alba and the hamlet of Perno. This specific location is right on the border with Serralunga d’Alba and defines a territory with distinct characteristics within the Barolo area. Such a clearly defined geographical origin gives the wine a pronounced expressive consistency, allowing one to find in the glass the typical imprint of this specific subzone of Piedmont.

How it is produced

The production process begins with a pre-fermentation maceration at low temperature for forty-eight hours, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in steel, with skin contact lasting from twenty to twenty-five days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine enters its maturation phase, resting for twenty-four months in partially new small oak barrels. This careful technical process gives the wine the proper structure and balance while preserving the clarity of its aromas.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red colour with subtle purple highlights. The aromatic profile opens with fragrant scents of red fruits and rose petals, followed by complex and intriguing notes of goudron, mint, and liquorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and perfectly balanced, offering a harmonious flavour progression that culminates in a persistent finish. The finale brings back luscious notes of blackberry and blueberry jam, creating a continuous connection between the sensations perceived on the nose and those tasted on the palate.

Food pairings

This characterful red wine enhances flavourful dishes based on red meat and game. It also pairs excellently with boards of mature cheeses, thanks to its palate structure which masterfully matches bold flavours. It is particularly recommended with recipes requiring long cooking times, as it rises to the complexity of the food. This combination offers a harmonious pairing, where the wine and the dish come together with great balance and enjoyable progression.

When to serve it

This label is the perfect choice to accompany important dinners and lunches featuring rich dishes. Its remarkable intensity and careful ageing in wood make it an ideal star for special gatherings where a memorable bottle is needed. It gives its best during the cooler seasons, bringing warmth and structure to the table and providing a precise accompaniment for those who appreciate red wines with a long, consistent finish.
