Description
What kind of wine is it?
Barolo Francia by Giacomo Conterno is a red wine from the Langhe, made from Nebbiolo grown in the Vigneto Francia vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba. It follows the style of local reds, with structure and depth, a dense tannic texture, and an intense aromatic profile. After fermentation, the extended aging in large oak casks provides an essential and well-defined technical approach.
Where does it come from?
The grapes come from the Vigneto Francia, located in the cru of the same name in the southern part of Serralunga d’Alba, in the Langhe. The climate is cool and constantly breezy, conditions that support the ripening of Nebbiolo. The calcareous-clay marl soils contribute to the aromatic precision and the austere yet elegant character typical of the area.
How is it produced?
Barolo Francia is made from Nebbiolo harvested in the Vigneto Francia and set for fermentation. After this phase, the wine is transferred for maturation in wood for about 48 months in large oak casks. Aging in large casks supports the structure and encourages the integration of the tannic texture into the overall body, maintaining a classic style.
Tasting notes
To the eye it appears garnet red, in line with the identity of Barolo from Serralunga. On the nose there are notes of marasca cherry and small red berries, followed by licorice root and a subtle spiciness. On the palate, it is deep and powerful, with dense, well-integrated tannins and a progression focused on structure and balance.
What does it pair with?
At the table it pairs well with braised game and braised meat, dishes that match its strength and tannic texture. Following Piedmontese cuisine, it lends itself to important preparations that require long cooking times and good succulence. A typical example is brasato al Barolo, where intensity and structure find an effective counterpoint in the wine.
When should it be served?
This is a red to choose when you are looking for a wine with great intensity to pair with meat and slow-cooked preparations, or for occasions dedicated to structured wines. Before serving, it benefits from some time in the glass, which helps broaden the aromatic profile and makes the spicy and fruity components more expressive. It suits tasting moments when a deep and classically styled sip is appreciated.
