Description

What kind of wine is it

Barolo Riserva by Sabaudo is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. It represents a classic and refined interpretation of the renowned Piedmontese denomination, offering a sumptuous and well-defined character. The careful vinification and subsequent maturation define a complex and profound profile, designed to evolve over time. The result is a red wine with an elegant and enveloping structure, supported by a well-integrated tannic weave that makes it ideal for accompanying important dishes.

Where does it come from

The Nebbiolo grapes used for this Barolo Riserva come from eleven different towns located within the denomination’s production area. This widespread origin strengthens the wine’s bond with its territory and guarantees a faithful expression of the grape variety. The label pays homage to Italian history as it depicts Vittorio Emanuele II, the first King of Italy from 1861 to 1878 and a key figure in the national unification alongside Cavour and Garibaldi. The territory’s identity is thus united with a strong historical recall that reflects the prestige and recognizability of the Barolo area.

How is it made

The vinification process begins with crushing and destemming, followed by fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature between 28°C and 30°C. Skin maceration lasts for twelve days and is accompanied by daily pump-overs to ensure optimal extraction. At the end, malolactic fermentation takes place completely. Aging involves a minimum rest of sixty-two months, including a crucial step of at least eighteen months in wooden barrels, which is critical for developing the wine’s evolutionary capability.

Tasting notes

On the nose, the wine reveals a broad and layered bouquet, characterized by clear notes of spices and licorice. On the palate, it is long and persistent, supported by a full structure and a pleasant velvety texture. The tannins are rich and harmoniously integrated into the tasting experience. This combination gives the sip an elegant and complex sensation and ensures a satisfying persistence that invites continuous tasting.

Food pairings

This Barolo Riserva pairs naturally with structured and intensely flavored dishes. It is a smart choice for game, enhancing preparations with hare and wild boar. It excellently supports hearty meat main courses such as braised beef, roasts, and grilled meats, bringing out the best in their sauces. Its aromatic persistence and dense tannic weave also make it a sure winner with a selection of important cheeses, creating a satisfying balance at the table.

When to serve

A red wine of great standing, ideal for lunches and dinners with hearty dishes and a relaxed pace. Its long oak aging makes it ready to be enjoyed now, but it also shows excellent potential for further aging in the cellar. It is perfect for occasions that require a wine with a consistent flavor profile and marked depth. Served patiently and at the right temperature, it fully expresses its sumptuous character and accompanies every stage of the meal with continuity and balance.
