Description
What type of wine is it
Argiano’s Brunello di Montalcino is a still red wine made from Sangiovese grapes grown in Montalcino, Tuscany. It displays a solid structure and a balanced style, with dense tannins and a well-integrated acidic framework. The winemaking process includes fermentation in stainless steel with skin maceration, followed by aging in Slavonian oak barrels and bottle refinement. These choices define its aromatic precision and high potential for evolution.
Where it comes from
It originates from the municipality of Montalcino, in the hilly area south of Siena, within the Brunello di Montalcino zone. Argiano’s vineyards are located at 280–310 meters altitude on soils of marl and clay with a strong limestone presence. The Mediterranean climate, with significant temperature variations and good ventilation, favors the phenolic ripening and health of the grapes.
How it is produced
Harvest takes place at the end of September at perfect ripeness. The must spontaneously ferments in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures for about two weeks, with skin maceration to extract color and aromas. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels of various capacities, then rests for a long time in the bottle. The result shows balance, stability, and a great potential for ageing.
Tasting notes
The color is a brilliant ruby red with good consistency. On the nose, plum and black cherry emerge, followed by sweet spices and well-integrated wood. The entry on the palate is energetic, with progression built around freshness and dense, well-ordered tannins. The finish is dry and precise, with fruity and spicy notes confirming its overall harmony.
Food pairings
Structure and tannin support red meats, game, and roasts. It pairs well with braised meats, steaks, grilled meats, and aged hard cheeses. In Tuscan cuisine, it accompanies bistecca alla fiorentina and stewed wild boar, enhancing the wine’s persistence. Also excellent with peposo all’imprunetina, where the spice of the dish matches the wine’s spiciness.
When to serve
Serve at 16–18 °C, with aeration in a decanter to promote aromatic openness and tannin harmonization. Ideal for convivial occasions with important dishes and for tastings, thanks to its structure and clean progression. Aging in large barrels and long bottle refinement indicate it can be cellared for a long period under suitable conditions, with positive evolution over time.
