Description

What kind of wine is it

Pommery's Champagne Brut Royal is a sparkling wine blended from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. It displays a harmonious style, balancing freshness, structure, and complexity thanks to a moderate dosage. The bottle fermentation using the traditional method and aging on the lees create a fine perlage and lasting aromas that highlight its elegance.

Where does it come from

The grapes for Champagne Brut Royal are sourced from the Champagne region, particularly from the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. The continental climate, with cold winters and mild summers, allows for slow ripening and high natural acidity. Limestone and clay soils contribute to distinct minerality and firm structure. The grapes are selected from 40 villages, ensuring excellent quality and a unique aromatic profile.

How is it made

Production involves hand-harvesting the grapes at optimal ripeness, followed by gentle pressing and separation of the musts. The blending of the cuvées respects the house style. After the liqueur de tirage is added, the second fermentation takes place in the bottle, with extended lees aging developing complexity and finesse.

Tasting notes

On the eye, Champagne Brut Royal is straw yellow with golden highlights and a very fine, continuous perlage. The nose reveals scents of white flowers, citrus, fresh almond, and a subtle hint of bread crust. On the palate, it offers freshness and liveliness, supported by vibrant acidity. The sip is elegant, with notes of green apple, white peach, and a slightly saline, mineral finish that stretches out the persistence.

Food pairings

Champagne Brut Royal is highly versatile at the table. Perfect as an aperitif, it accompanies seafood dishes such as oysters, shellfish, and prawns. It also pairs well with French cuisine, including gratinated Coquilles Saint-Jacques and quiche Lorraine. It's excellent with delicate starters, refined cold cuts, soft cheeses, and light fish soups, enhancing the wine’s freshness and structure.

When to serve it

Pommery’s Champagne Brut Royal is best enjoyed young, within a few years of disgorgement, when its freshness and aromatic liveliness are at their peak. Aging on the lees allows for brief evolution in the bottle, enriching toasted and nutty notes. Serve well chilled. A short rest in the cellar can offer a more complex profile to those seeking greater depth.
