Description
What kind of wine it is
Piper-Heidsieck's Cuvée Brut Champagne is a Champagne produced using the Traditional Method, resulting from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, enriched by reserve wines. Fermentation in stainless steel and aging on the lees for at least 24 months create a balanced structure, lively freshness, and persistent finesse. The perlage is fine and consistent, while the aromatic profile is elegant and continuous. This Champagne is suitable for immediate enjoyment or for aging over time.
Where it comes from
This Champagne originates from more than 100 crus that represent the diverse terroirs of Champagne. The limestone-rich soils provide pronounced minerality and typical freshness of the region. The continental climate, with cold winters and cool springs, promotes slow grape maturation and preserves acidity and aromatic complexity. The area is historically recognized for the quality of its crus and careful winemaking practices.
How it's made
Production begins with manual harvesting of the grapes, followed by gentle pressing to extract only the free-run juice. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and blending with reserve wines ensures stylistic consistency. The prise de mousse occurs with refermentation in the bottle according to the Traditional Method, followed by aging on the lees for at least 24 months. The process concludes with disgorgement and the addition of the liqueur d’expédition, after which the wine briefly rests in the cellar.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the Champagne displays a deep straw yellow with golden highlights, accompanied by a fine and persistent perlage. The nose reveals aromas of fresh hazelnut and almond, followed by pear, apple, and delicate citrus notes. On the palate, it offers a vibrant structure, clear freshness, and subtle creaminess, with a long, savory finish that leaves sensations of cleanliness and harmony.
Food pairings
This Champagne pairs ideally with oysters and shellfish, enhancing their marine salinity. It also matches well with fresh soft cheeses, which highlight the wine's creaminess. Among regional pairings, it accompanies escargots de Bourgogne, while in Italy it surprises alongside a plate of spaghetti alle vongole, bringing out the marine and citrus notes.
When to serve
Piper-Heidsieck’s Cuvée Brut Champagne is best enjoyed young within 2–3 years of purchase, allowing the freshness and vibrancy of its bubbles to remain intact. Thanks to its acid structure and aging on the lees, the wine can also evolve up to 5 years after disgorgement. It’s recommended to serve at a temperature of 8 to 10 °C in slightly broad tulip glasses, to enhance the aromas and bubbles and ensure a complete sensory experience.
