Description
What kind of wine is it
The Cabernet Franc from Tenuta Villanova is a dry red wine made solely from Cabernet Franc grapes. It offers complex, fruity aromas and a fairly full-bodied yet fragrant palate. The grape’s hallmark notes shape its character.
Where it comes from
It originates in the Isonzo area, in Friuli, on pebbly and alluvial soils with excellent drainage, formed by the river’s deposits. The estate is based in Villanova di Farra, in the province of Gorizia, and includes an architectural complex whose origins date back to 1499. The Grossi family has been producing wine in the Isonzo and Collio Goriziano since the 1930s, and this Cabernet Franc has been made since 1975.
How it is made
The Cabernet Franc grapes, trained to Guyot, are harvested by hand. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and ages for 12 months in the same vessels. It then rests for six months in bottle before release, for a clean, fruit-faithful profile.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a ruby red hue. On the nose it offers complex, fruity aromas of small red berries and violet, with notes of pyrazines that underscore the variety’s typicity. The palate is fairly full-bodied, fragrant and of good length.
Food pairing
It pairs well with roast meats and beef burgers, as well as medium-aged cheeses. It finds a particularly successful match with truffle dishes.
When to serve it
A red suited to meat dinners and convivial meals with a bold character. Serve in a medium-sized red wine glass and it has good aging potential.
