Description

What kind of wine it is

Montefalco Sagrantino Antonelli is a red wine made exclusively from Sagrantino grapes, a true expression of the Umbrian hills. It stands out for its full-bodied, structured style, supported by a long finish on the palate. The lengthy production process includes skin fermentation and a complex aging in wood, concrete, and glass, resulting in a technically elegant and formally clean profile. The well-integrated tannins reflect the great care taken at every stage of production, yielding a structured red wine that faithfully reflects its territory of origin.

Where it comes from

This Umbrian red comes directly from the Montefalco hills, an area historically regarded as the benchmark for Sagrantino grapes. The special location of the vineyards and the region’s unique soil and climate characteristics define the wine’s identity and give it a clear territorial stamp. Being part of this specific geographic context highlights the varietal’s distinct traits and ensures a tasting experience in line with the Umbrian winemaking tradition. The dedication of the Antonelli winery fully showcases the vineyard potential of these hillside slopes.

How it is produced

Harvesting is done entirely by hand in the second week of October. The grape clusters are gravity-fed into maceration tanks, where the must undergoes a long skin fermentation at controlled temperature for between twenty-five and forty days. The aging stage is divided into several phases, starting with twenty-four months of rest among caratelli and oak barrels. Afterwards, the wine spends twelve months in concrete tanks and completes its path with a further twelve months of bottle refinement before being ready for tasting.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays a deep intense ruby red color, heralding a notably concentrated aromatic profile. On the nose, clear ethereal notes blend with red fruit aromas, including prominent hints of cherry and citrus backnotes. The bouquet is completed by nuances of fresh aromatic herbs, such as mint and oregano. On the palate, it is impressively solid and consistent, displaying persistent flavor development where the ample structure is balanced by a tannic weave well integrated within each sip.

Pairings

The gustatory power of this red makes it the ideal companion for barbecues and roasted meats, where it beautifully balances succulent components and perfectly browned cooking. It is also an excellent pairing with game meats preparations. Its tactile qualities and good persistence pair precisely with well-aged hard cheeses. This combination is optimal whenever the dish served has enough aromatic intensity to support the wine’s body.

Serving occasions

This Sagrantino is an excellent choice for lunches or dinners focused on rich dishes, providing a tasting experience with bold character. Thanks to the prolonged maturation in the cellar, it displays a well-defined aromatic profile from the moment the bottle is opened. It is particularly suitable for those occasions when you wish to serve a red with a well-balanced tannic presence and an enveloping palate. Its features make it a bottle to appreciate slowly, allowing you to take the time to explore its various nuances.
