Description

The Morellino di Scansano from Fattoria dei Barbi originates in Maremma, in the far south of Tuscany, from Sangiovese grapes, locally known as Morellino, with the addition of 15% of permitted black grape varieties. A modern-character wine, while rooted in tradition, capable of combining structure, balance, and pleasantness.

The grapes come from the vineyards of Tenuta Aquilaia dei Barbi, located 250 m above sea level on soils composed of clay, limestone, and skeleton. After crushing and destemming, alcoholic fermentation takes place in tanks for about 12-13 days at a controlled temperature of 27-28°C. The aging process includes about 6 months, partly in steel and partly in oak barrels, to enhance its elegance and freshness.

Ruby red in color with purple highlights, on the nose it stands out for notes of small red fruits, ripe cherry, and hints of myrtle and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is warm, with round tannins, balanced savoriness, and a vibrant freshness, with a delicate aftertaste of green tobacco.

It pairs perfectly with flavorful meat dishes, roasts, game such as wild boar "scottiglia," as well as cured meats, aged cheeses, and fish soups cooked with spices or tomato sauce.
