Description
What kind of wine is it
Piano Chiuso 26 27 63 by Masca del Tacco is a Primitivo di Manduria Riserva, a red wine from Puglia made from old-vine Primitivo grapes. It combines elegance and power in a sip of great substance, with freshness and a saline edge that make it surprisingly easy to drink for its structure. It’s a red for those seeking a deep Primitivo with a long finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Primitivo di Manduria area in Puglia, from old Apulian alberello bush vines. The soil consists of iron-rich red earths with a calcareous subsoil, influenced by sea winds. This terrain and climate give the wine structure, salinity and freshness.
How it's made
Vinification takes place at a controlled temperature, with prolonged skin contact to extract color, aromas and tannins. The wine matures and refines for at least 24 months, of which at least nine in wood, building layered complexity and yielding very ripe, ultra-fine tannins.
Tasting notes
To the eye it’s an intense, bright ruby red with a hint of garnet, showing great concentration. The nose is expansive, with bramble and cherry liqueur, then violet and fern, black pepper and clove over a backdrop of graphite and cocoa powder, lifted by a balsamic breeze. On the palate, elegance and power go hand in hand, with ripe, ultra-fine tannins that caress the palate and a very long finish.
Food pairing
Pairs with hearty first courses, such as gnocchi with porcini mushrooms and guanciale, with game, braises and roasts, and with aged cheeses. It can also be enjoyed on its own, as a wine for contemplation.
When to serve it
It’s a red for important meals, for evenings when you want to savor a glass slowly. Serve it in a wide-bowled glass and let it breathe for a while, so its aromatic complexity can emerge. Its structure and lengthy aging also make it suitable to be cellared for a few years.
