Description
What kind of wine is it
Rosso di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura by Banfi is a red wine from Sangiovese grapes, fresh and fruity, with a broad, substantial structure. Its character is elegant and the palate is supported by graceful tannins, delivering a balanced, approachable profile.
Where it comes from
It originates in Montalcino, in Tuscany, from vineyards on well-inclined slopes. The soils are clay-rich, reddish in color, with a notable presence of stones and pebbles. The Sangiovese comes from an in-house clonal selection begun in 1982 and is trained to spurred cordon and bush vine, with low yields per hectare.
How it is made
After the harvest the must ferments in stainless-steel vats at controlled temperature. The wine ages for twelve months in French oak, between large-format casks and barriques. This step refines the structure and harmonizes the tannins without masking the fruit.
Tasting notes
The bouquet is fresh and fruity, with intense aromas of blackberry and cherry and delicate notes of licorice and clove. On the palate it has a broad, substantial structure, with supple tannins, and it closes with a long and pleasant finish.
What it pairs with
It pairs with red meats and game, where fruit and structure find a good balance. It also goes well with medium-aged cheeses, which match its substance.
When to serve it
It is suitable for lunches and dinners based on meat and for convivial tables that call for a structured yet fresh red. It opens with no need for long waits and is served in a large glass for red wine.
