Description
What kind of wine is it
The Saint-Julien by Château Beychevelle is a red Bordeaux wine produced from a blend of grapes harvested from numerous plots and vinified separately. Fermentation takes place in steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation in both steel and wood. Aging occurs in French oak barriques for about eighteen months. The tasting profile is concentrated and harmonious, distinguished by aromatic continuity and a persistent finish.
Where does it come from
Château Beychevelle is located in Bordeaux, within Saint-Julien. The vineyards are divided into over sixty plots distributed throughout different parts of the appellation, allowing for a precise interpretation of the territory's nuances. Known for its classic architecture and vast gardens, it is nicknamed the Versailles of Bordeaux. Since the fifteenth century, the estate has changed hands numerous times and today is owned by both Japanese and French companies to preserve its local roots.
How is it produced
The harvested grapes are vinified separately in fifty-nine steel vats, in line with the local technical tradition. After the initial phase, malolactic fermentation occurs partly in vats and partly in wooden barrels. Maturation continues in French oak barriques for about eighteen months, with half the barrels being new. This resting period is followed by bottling, which locks in the acquired structural balance and aromatic intensity.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the wine displays an intense ruby red color. The aromatic profile opens with clear fruity aromas of cherries, raspberries, and ripe blueberries, enhanced by subtle herbal notes and balsamic hints of lavender and star anise. On the palate, it is concentrated and harmonious, with an aromatic progression that mirrors the olfactory sensations. The tasting experience ends with a long and refined finish.
Food pairings
This Saint-Julien wine pairs perfectly with any meat-based dish, from stews to roasts and grilled preparations. Its structure complements red meats as well as white meats, and also matches bold and hearty flavors. It’s a great choice to accompany game or noble poultry, contrasting the succulence of the food with its aromatic persistence.
When to serve it
A red wine meant for important convivial occasions, where a substantial meal calls for a wine of real character. It’s well-suited to accompany lunches and dinners based on meat, as it offers the intensity needed for lingering flavors. Its time in barriques and well-defined aromatic profile make it ideal for those seeking an elegant drink. Serve it to allow the wine to reveal its tasting continuity and lingering finish.
