Description
What kind of wine is it
Sicilia Angheli by Donnafugata is a structured red wine, born from a balanced blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine fully reflects the character of the southwest of the region and offers a soft, fruity profile with velvety tannins. The vinification includes a fermentation phase in steel at a controlled temperature and a prolonged maturation both in wood and in bottle.
Where does it come from
The grapes for this wine originate from the Tenuta di Contessa Entellina, within the locality of Casale Bianco. We are in the heart of southwestern Sicily, in a winegrowing area that guarantees a climate suitable for the development of aromas. The geographical origin gives a distinctive Mediterranean identity and allows the international varieties grown on the island to express great intensity and optimal ripeness.
How is it produced
The manual harvesting of the grapes takes place between the end of August and September. In the winery, fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature for twelve days. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine rests in French oak barriques and tonneaux for twelve months. The production process ends with a crucial maturation in bottle for a further two years.
Tasting notes
This red shows an intense ruby color. The bouquet is layered, with balsamic notes and hints of red fruits, enriched by nuances of violet and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it turns out to be structured, smooth, and distinctly fruity. The drinkability is supported by a velvety tannic texture, which enhances the harmony between aromatic intensity and a clean finish.
Food pairing
The richness of the sip pairs perfectly with oven-roasted red meats and braised dishes, supporting their succulence. Its spicy and balsamic aromas make it also a very suitable match for game. In line with local tradition, it creates an excellent balance of flavors with robust preparations, enhancing meat-based recipes such as falsomagro alla palermitana.
When to serve it
This wine is designed for important dinners and convivial moments when you want to enjoy a red of depth. The aging in wood and bottle ensures remarkable longevity and makes it suitable for aging in the cellar for greater aromatic integration. It gives its best when paired with a complete meal, where its body and tannins find the right balance with food.
