Description
What kind of wine is it
This red wine is a genuine expression of Lagrein, an indigenous grape variety that imparts a distinctive character to the wine. Its essence is revealed in a well-structured profile, perfect for the table, blending marked aromatic intensity with delightful drinkability. Its style is particularly full-bodied and velvety, reflecting a harmony that enhances the grape’s natural qualities. It is a typical wine that faithfully represents the unique features of its type.
Where it comes from
This native grape variety originates from the basin of Bolzano, but for several decades it has also been cultivated and vinified in Terlano. The towering peaks of the Alps protect Alto Adige from the cold Atlantic currents from the north, while to the south, the region welcomes Mediterranean influences. These orographic features create a pronounced temperature range between day and night, promoting an elegant ripening of the grapes.
How it is produced
The production process begins with the careful harvest of the best grapes. After the primary fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, a crucial step to impart softness and harmony to its structure. Maturation is completed with an aging period of seven to ten months in large wooden barrels, allowing the different components to perfectly integrate and ensuring an excellent taste balance.
Tasting notes
To the eye, it displays a dense dark garnet red color. On the nose, a generous bouquet unfolds, where fruity aromas of cranberry and sour cherry blend with the floral nuances of lilac and hints of laurel. In the background, delicate notes of flint and a light touch of chocolate enrich the aromatic complexity. On the palate, it is winey and harmonious, standing out for its velvety texture and a coherent, satisfying roundness.
Food pairings
Thanks to its structured organoleptic profile, this red is the ideal partner for meat dishes that require slow cooking. It pairs particularly well with a rich beef stew served with mashed potatoes or with hearty braised game accompanied by red cabbage. The wine’s smooth texture also complements the savoriness of cheese, making it a fine choice to accompany aged Parmigiano.
When to serve it
This Lagrein is the right bottle to enrich convivial occasions centered around lunches and dinners with meat or cheese, supporting the courses with perfect poise. Its ample aromatic intensity makes it a reliable companion for culinary moments when the fullness of the sip can be truly appreciated. This is a red to serve when you want a wine with an enveloping profile, capable of enhancing the meal’s richness and the joy of sharing at the table.
