Description
What kind of wine it is
Inessa’s Nerello Mascalese is a red wine made exclusively from Nerello Mascalese grapes, grown on the slopes of Etna at altitudes between 350 and 900 meters above sea level.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the high-altitude vineyards of Etna, a volcanic area that imparts a distinctive character to Nerello Mascalese. Harvest takes place in the first ten days of September.
How it is made
Once brought to the winery, the grapes undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration at a temperature between 0 and 4°C for 4–6 days. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature up to a maximum of 24°C for 10–14 days, a process designed to enhance the grape’s most fruity components.
Tasting notes
In the glass the wine shows a ruby red color. The nose reveals marked roasted notes, together with hints of red fruits and a finish of blackberries and dried plums. The palate is full and smooth, supported by a noble tannic structure and a pleasant persistence.
Food pairings
It is an ideal wine to pair with cured-meat appetizers, roasts and grilled meats. It is also recommended with medium-aged cheeses.
When to serve it
Thanks to its tannic structure and good body, serve at 16–18°C; it is ideal to accompany lunches and dinners centered on grilled meat. Opening it a little ahead of serving encourages its aromatic expression, making it perfect for social occasions where the main course takes center stage.
