Description
What type of wine is it
Pinot Nero Tenuta San Michele di Murgo is a red wine produced in Sicily in the province of Catania. Made exclusively from Pinot Nero grapes, it displays a precise and well-defined style, with a structured texture and well-integrated tannins. The vinification includes controlled-temperature maceration in steel with frequent pump-overs, followed by a maturation period divided between steel and barrique for at least eighteen months.
Where does it come from
This red wine originates from the vineyards of Tenuta di San Michele, recognized for hosting the estate's most prized parcels, located in the province of Catania. Its origin is within the area of Terre Siciliane, firmly linking the wine's profile to the unique soil and climate characteristics of this specific region. Production focuses on a strict selection of grapes, managed to enhance the territorial expression of the vineyard.
How it's produced
To preserve the integrity of the bunches, the grapes are hand-harvested. The must macerates for over a week in stainless steel tanks, using controlled temperatures and frequent pump-overs to extract color and aromatic compounds in a balanced way. The wine completes fermentation while resting for eighteen months, alternating time in steel and in barrique.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a ruby red color, light and consistent with the nature of the grape variety. The nose is intense with notes of cherry and blackcurrant, enriched by floral hints of rose and spicy accents of licorice and black pepper. On the palate, it is mineral and enveloping, guided by delicate wild raspberry aromas and a spicy aftertaste that pleasantly prolongs the finish.
Pairings
Its pronounced mineral texture finds a perfect match with meat dishes that enhance its structure. It pairs beautifully with grilled lamb and cutlets, whose juicy preparations balance the tannins. It accompanies traditional Sicilian main courses and confirms its vocation for grilled cooking.
When to serve
This wine boasts a great aging potential, making it suitable for immediate drinking as well as for long-term cellaring. It can evolve favorably for up to a decade after harvest, gaining extra complexity over time. It is the perfect choice for convivial gatherings centered around meat, allowing you to match opening time to the desired aromatic complexity.
