Description
The Toscana Tenuta Tignanello Solaia from Marchesi Antinori originates from the vineyard of the same name located in the Chianti Classico area and is produced only in exceptional years.
It is made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Franc grapes, harvested from the end of September until mid-October. Upon arrival at the winery, the bunches are delicately destemmed and the berries carefully selected before crushing. Fermentation and maceration take place in 60 hl truncated conical tanks, then the wine is placed in barriques for malolactic fermentation to enhance its finesse and palatability. It subsequently matures in French and Hungarian oak barrels for about 18 months, then the different lots, vinified separately according to the variety, are assembled to create the final blend.
The Solaia is characterized by a very intense ruby red color. On the nose, it has great impact and the different varieties express themselves at their best with fragrant, intense, and sweet notes of red fruits and spices. On the palate, it is vibrant, enveloping, and with great structure, with soft tannins. Overall, it is an elegant and balanced wine, with a long and persistent finish that recalls the spicy notes perceived on the nose.
1994 Vintage
The year 1994 was particularly favorable for Tuscan viticulture, with a regular climatic trend that allowed for constant and complete ripening of the grapes. Stable weather conditions favored a precise harvest, enhancing the varietal characteristics and the expressiveness of the Solaia vineyard terroir.
Solaia 1994 has established itself over time as one of the best expressions of the decade, thanks to its solid structure and extraordinary aromatic complexity. The careful selection of the grapes and precision in winemaking have allowed for a wine capable of aging with elegance and personality.
Upon tasting, it presents a deep olfactory profile, combining intensity and refinement, confirming the potential of the vintage. The mouth is compact, enveloping, supported by mature tannins and a texture that combines energy and finesse, in perfect balance with the aromatic components.
