Description
What kind of wine it is
Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva di Borgo San Frediano is a Tuscan white wine made exclusively from Vernaccia di San Gimignano grapes. It shows structure, balance and persistence, with a pronounced freshness that blends with a pleasant softness. Aging gives it complexity and depth, while respecting the grape’s natural expression.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from San Gimignano, in Tuscany, the heartland of Vernaccia. Harvesting is done by hand, with selection of the grapes directly in the vineyard, to bring to the cellar only fruit at full ripeness. The bond with the terroir is reflected in the wine’s finesse and minerality.
How it is made
The grapes, hand-picked at perfect ripeness, undergo low-temperature cryomaceration, which preserves aromatic freshness and promotes the extraction of the noblest components from the skins. Temperature-controlled fermentation keeps the identity and finesse of Vernaccia intact. This is followed by 12 months of maturation in the cellar and at least four months in bottle, on the estate.
Tasting notes
In appearance it is a bright straw yellow with golden reflections that develop with aging. The bouquet is elegant and complex, with notes of white flowers, citrus and white-fleshed fruit, accompanied by delicate mineral and balsamic nuances. On the palate it is structured and balanced, with a refined minerality. The finish is long, savory and highly elegant.
Food pairings
Ideal with fish dishes, shellfish and molluscs, but it also pairs well with white meats and medium-aged cheeses. It also suits Tuscan cuisine, which makes the most of its freshness and savory character.
When to serve it
A Vernaccia for special meals, when you’re looking for a white with structure and character. It’s best served in a wide-bowled glass, which lets the complexity of the aromas emerge. Its long aging also makes it suitable for those who want to discover a white wine capable of evolving over time.
