gin
Gin is a Dutch-origin alcoholic spirit made by distilling a grain- and rye-based ferment, infused with a blend of herbs and spices known as botanicals. Among these, juniper berries play a key role in defining its distinctive aroma and flavor. Highly appreciated by the English, gin was introduced to the UK, where production techniques evolved. The process typically includes an initial distillation and infusion with juniper berries, coriander, and other aromatic herbs such as anise and fennel seeds, lemon and orange peel, licorice root, cardamom, cumin, and almonds. A second distillation then produces London Dry Gin. Gin is perfect as an aperitif and serves as a key ingredient in many cocktails and long drinks.
