Château La Lagune
Château La Lagune is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, Troisième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. Its origins date back to the late Middle Ages, and the name recalls the fifteen natural springs that irrigated the estate’s lands. In the sixteenth century Mr. Eyral transformed the "Village de La Lagune" into a large wine estate, and in the eighteenth century the Lavaud family built the elegant chartreuse that can still be admired today.
Throughout the twentieth century La Lagune saw important figures such as Marguerite Seze, who brought its wines to international renown, Georges Brunet, who replanted the vineyard, and René Chayoux, owner of the Champagne house Ayala. At the beginning of the 2000s the estate passed to the Frey family, which renovated vineyards and technical facilities; since 2004 it has been led by oenologist Caroline Frey, who trained with Denis Dubourdieu.
La Lagune practices massal selection and parcel-by-parcel blending, and in 2021 it became the tenth Bordeaux wine to obtain the Biodyvin biodynamic certification. The estate’s wetland, a 34-hectare haven for biodiversity, testifies to a profound respect for the ecosystem.
Alongside the grand vin, Moulin du Château La Lagune is produced. History, biodynamics and elegance make Château La Lagune a gem of the Médoc.
