Quinta de S. Sebastião
Quinta de São Sebastião is a historic estate in Arruda dos Vinhos, Portugal, whose roots go back to the 18th century: 'desde 1755', as the estate notes. Its name and heraldic emblem are inspired by Saint Sebastian, a Roman soldier and Christian martyr venerated as a protector against plague, famine, and war, around whose hermitage stories of pilgrimages and miracles have been passed down.
Arruda dos Vinhos is a land with an ancient winemaking tradition, dating back to Roman times, and owes its very name to the fame of its vineyards. Here, valleys with varied aspects and slopes, sea air tempered by the mountains, and waterways create a balanced microclimate, while soils of limestone, marl, clay, and sandstone prove fertile and productive.
The Quinta's wine project took shape with the 2008 harvest, which marked the beginning of wines with a strong identity. Since 2012, winemaker Filipe Sevinate Pinto has overseen production, with rigorous grape selection and attentive, respectful vineyard care.
The vineyards bring together international and Portuguese varieties: for reds, Syrah, Merlot, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Roriz (Aragonês); for whites, Arinto and Cercial. The wines are born as blends and make up a broad range that includes labels such as Quinta de São Sebastião, Dona Flor, Mina Velha, Mil Caminhos, Encosta do Forte, and Q.S.S. Rare.
History, terroir, and a passion for wine come together at Quinta de São Sebastião, a place that brings the soul of Arruda dos Vinhos to the glass.
