It was 1944 when Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta planted the first vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon in Bolgheri, brought directly from Bordeaux to what was then still an area unknown to most. The Marquis had recognized the similarities between Bolgheri and Bordeaux, thus realizing the great potential of this Tuscany bordered by the sea and hills.
The first vineyard was followed by new plantings of Merlot and the production of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon intensified. Producers arrived from various parts of Italy and the world who brought the Bolgheri area to be today one of the flagships of Italian wine production. The French varieties in Bolgheri thrive very well thanks to the soil of stones and clay , which is the same as their birthplace, Bordeaux. It is interesting to underline how the name Sassicaia , assigned to the wine, recalls "stones" in Italian, just like Graves in Bordeaux, in relation to the type of soil.

Bolgheri is a natural theater that extends from the Metalliferous Hills to the Etruscan coast . The climate of Bolgheri is Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters and a beautiful luminosity, which give life to full-bodied wines, with ripe and silky tannins. The verticality and freshness of the sip are maintained thanks to the refreshing breezes of the sea.

The Bolgheri appellation is famous above all for its red wines which are famous all over the world, but in this part of the coast the white Bolgheri also enjoys prestige. Suffice it to say that the first production disciplinary of Bolgheri dating back to 1983 contemplated only the white and rosé types. For Bolgheri bianco the main grape is Vermentino , mostly vinified alone, but sometimes blended with other grapes as well: Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.

Choosing Bolgheri wines means retracing the history of Tuscany, imagining the banquets of the mysterious Etruscan people and breathing in a story that is enriched every day through the prestigious production of one of the most loved wines in the world.
