Located in the heart of Montalbano, Cantine Bonacchi has been producing, vinifying, bottling and marketing the finest Tuscan wines for 3 generations.
The three wineries have 40 ha of Chianti Montalbano vineyards located around the bottling plant; 23 ha of Chianti Classico vineyards in the Fattoria Casalino in Castelnuovo Berardenga; 11 ha of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino vineyards and 12 ha of vineyards dedicated to the production of Chianti Colli Senesi and Vermentino in the Molino della Suga winery in Montalcino. The logo on the label, representing oak leaves, is a tribute to the artist Jacopo della Quercia, who lived in the 1400s and was born in the nearby village of Quercegrossa.
The Brunello di Montalcino, made exclusively from Sangiovese grosso grapes, is vinified in steel at a controlled temperature, and then aged in different types of wood: large oak barrels, barriques and tonneaux. In the glass, the wine appears ruby red in colour; the nose is intense, clean-cut, characterised by spicy notes reminiscent of wild berry jam and pleasant nuances of vanilla. Equally remarkable, the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2012 (92 pts Suckling), on the nose reveals aromas of wild berry jam, as well as spicy notes of vanilla. The sip is warm and soft, with velvety tannins and a long persistence.
The Rosso di Montalcino, on the other hand, is an intense ruby red colour in the glass. The nose reveals scents of violets and ripe red fruit, in addition to vanilla notes from the ageing in wood. The sip is fresh and balanced, with a persistent finish.
Chianti Classico Casalino (93 pts Maroni) is produced on one of the winery's properties, the Fattoria Casalino in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena. The vineyards surrounding the Fattoria grow on soil consisting of alberese and galestro. Composed almost entirely of Sangiovese grapes, the grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled steel tanks, where the wine spends a period of ageing before bottling. In the glass, the wine appears a lively ruby red colour. The nose reveals aromas of violets and red fruit, in addition to delicate balsamic notes. The sip is balanced and pleasant in its simplicity.
