Coppo
Barbera resting in the underground cathedrals
Founded in 1892 in the Piedmontese municipality of Canelli, the Coppo company is today one of the oldest wineries in Italy. The origins of the company are linked to the figure of Piero Coppo, progenitor of the family, founder of the company and husband of Clelia Pennone, heir of the ancient cellars of the homonymous family company, which allows her husband to expand the Canelli cellar, merging the two structures. It is 1913 and Coppo becomes the owner of the famous "Underground Cathedrals" , so called to be dug into the tuff under the ground and for the characteristic barrel vaults that recall those of the churches, recognized in 2014 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site .
