Egly-Ouriet is a small family Maison in Ambonnay, in the southern part of the Montagne de Reims. The Maison is managed by the shy vignerons Francis Egly, fourth generation of the Egly family, who has been in charge of the cellar since the early 1980s and who has brought his style to the Maison's champagnes. Francis has increased the aging times of the cuvées in the cellar, also using the barriques for winemaking, and has completed the acquisition of new vines in Bisseuil (Chardonnay) and Verzy (Pinot Noir). Egly-Ouriet also has a rare heritage of 50 parcels of old vines aged over 45 years with mass selection, legendary names such as Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzenay.

Francis Egly made precise choices starting from the vines, treated with natural methods , with the utmost respect for the land without fertilizers, and with a thinning that reduces yields by almost 50%, to obtain superior quality grapes. The soils are typical of the Montagne de Reims , rich in craie that give the champagne a particular mineral note. Even the cellar practices are characterized by naturalness thanks to a pressing with cooling of the must, to use less sulphites, and to vinification without the addition of selected yeasts. After the élevage in barrique, the champagnes are slowly clarified as in the past and bottled without filtering or sizing to preserve the aromatic integrity . This is followed by a long stay on the lees, of at least 3/5 years, which allows to increase the complexity of the wines, ensure a better aging potential, and above all to understand the terroir. The expression of the terroir is strengthened in the wine over time - is the motto of Francis of the Maison Egly-Ouriet.
