Primitivo is one of the symbols of Southern Italian winemaking. It is characterized by an early ripening of the grapes and a natural tendency to produce rich, intense, and enveloping wines. Depending on the area of cultivation and production choices, it can lead to very different interpretations: from powerful and structured wines to fresher and more immediate ones.
Primitivo di Manduria is one of the most celebrated and iconic wines from Puglia, also recognized internationally for its intensity and complexity. The grapes, mainly grown in the provinces of Taranto and Brindisi, benefit from soils rich in limestone and a warm, breezy climate that promotes a late and complete ripening, from which the name “Primitivo” derives.
In addition to aromas of ripe dark fruit, jam, and spicy notes, there are often hints of licorice, tobacco, and vanilla, especially in versions aged in wooden barrels. The typically high alcohol content pairs perfectly with its full body and soft tannins, making this wine ideal to accompany red meats, roasts, aged cheeses, and dishes from traditional Puglian cuisine.
Thanks to its versatility and its ability to evolve with aging, Primitivo di Manduria is considered a wine for meditation, also perfect for enjoying on its own.
