Description
What kind of wine it is
The Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a dry red wine made from dried grapes, the result of years of research with which the winery has perfected its own style, focused on enhancing the fruit-driven character. It is a deep, structured red, conceived for those seeking an Amarone with a clear-cut character and well-defined fruit.
Where it comes from
It originates in the Classica della Valpolicella area, in Veneto, where Allegrini works the local grapes with the expertise gained over these years of experimentation. The bond with its area of origin and the care taken in the vineyard and in the cellar give the wine a recognizable identity.
How it is made
It is made primarily from Corvina Veronese, with the addition of Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta. The grapes are hand-harvested in the second week of September and left to dry in the drying loft until December. The must ferments for 25 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine then ages for 18 months in new oak and a further 14 months in bottle before release.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a deep ruby red. The nose offers scents of ripe red fruit and subtle spicy notes. On the palate it is deep and full-bodied, with refined tannins that provide energy and drive and lead to a velvety finish of pleasing persistence.
Food pairing
It pairs well with braises and grilled red meats. It also complements game and very mature cheeses, and stands up to the sweet-and-sour dishes of Asian cuisine.
When to serve it
It is a wine for a substantial meal, suited to dinners centered on meat, game and aged cheeses. Serve it in a large-bowled glass and open it well in advance, so that the fruit and spice notes can open up. Its structure and refined tannins also make it suitable for a few years of cellaring.
