Description
What kind of wine is it
Barbaresco Martinenga by Marchesi di Gresy is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Barbaresco area. It stands out for its complex structure and mineral freshness, which enhance its drinkability. Its vinification process features a double maceration, first with the cap emerged and then submerged, in temperature-controlled tanks. The aging process is partially carried out in French oak barriques and partly in Slavonian oak barrels, balancing well-defined tannins with aromatic finesse.
Where it comes from
Barbaresco Martinenga is produced on the Martinenga estate, in the heart of the Langhe. The Barbaresco area boasts a history associated with wines of strong character.
How it is produced
The Nebbiolo grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected before vinification. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with an initial phase of cap emerged maceration followed by a longer period with the cap submerged. Maturation is split between twelve months in French oak barriques and six months in Slavonian oak barrels, creating both balance and complexity.
Tasting notes
It shows a deep garnet red color with orange reflections. Its bouquet presents notes of plum and ripe cherry, with hints of mint, blond tobacco, and dried flowers. On the palate it is full-bodied, with elegant tannins and freshness supported by balanced acidity. The finish is long, featuring echoes of ripe fruit and a subtle spiciness that enhances its persistence.
Food pairing
This Barbaresco pairs well with egg pasta with meat ragù, braised beef, and semi-aged cheeses.
When to serve
Thanks to its tannic structure and well-defined aromatic profile, Barbaresco Martinenga is suitable for tasting both after several years of bottle aging and earlier for those who prefer freshness.
