Description
What kind of wine is it
Barbera d’Alba Superiore Castlè by Fratelli Barale is a red wine made from Barbera grapes from the Castellero and Preda vineyards. It displays a complex structure and a harmonious style, with balanced freshness and depth. Vinification takes place in steel with indigenous yeasts and aging in tonneaux, a choice that shapes the aromatic profile and texture.
Where it comes from
The wine comes from the Castellero and Preda vineyards, located in an area renowned for the production of Barbera d’Alba Superiore. The terroir provides a balance between minerality and aromatic intensity.
How it is produced
The grapes are harvested at the beginning of October, with bunches selected with care. After destemming and gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for about one week. Aging continues for twelve months in tonneaux and at least six months in bottle, allowing the wine to develop complex aromas and well-integrated tannins.
Tasting notes
Intense ruby red color with violet reflections. The nose offers ripe red fruit, plum jam, and black cherry, with hints of sweet spices and cocoa. The palate is dry, full-bodied, with balanced tannins and lively acidity providing energy and freshness. A harmonious finish, with lingering fruit and mineral notes.
Food pairings
This Barbera d’Alba Superiore pairs well with roast beef, mixed boiled meats, and aged cheeses such as toma and Castelmagno. It’s a great match for Piedmontese dishes like tajarin with duck ragù and agnolotti del plin with butter and sage. Its structure and freshness also suit flavorful meats and rich first courses, enhancing regional cuisine and intense flavors.
When to serve
Barbera d’Alba Superiore Castlè is ideal when young, to appreciate its freshness and fruity aromas, or after several years of bottle aging, when the tannins become rounder and the aromas more complex. Serving at the right temperature in large glasses is recommended, to promote aeration and aromatic expression, making each tasting experience complete and satisfying.
