Description
What type of wine is it
Barolo Arione by Giacomo Conterno is a red wine from the Langhe region, made from Nebbiolo grapes sourced from a single cru. It expresses a structured and complex profile, supported by a dense, mature tannic texture and pronounced flavor persistence. The winemaking follows a traditional red fermentation method, with prolonged aging in large oak barrels and further bottle rest, to deliver a precise and focused ensemble.
Where does it come from
The grapes come from the Arione cru, located in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, at the heart of Barolo. The vineyard lies south of the renowned Francia cru and represents an area historically dedicated to the great reds of Langa, where hills, exposures, and microclimates help define wines with strong character. In this context, Serralunga d’Alba is associated with Barolo of firm character, combining tension and aromatic depth.
How is it produced
After harvest, the grapes undergo red vinification with fermentation and skin maceration, essential steps to extract color and the typical Nebbiolo tannic components. After fermentation, the wine matures for an extended period in large oak barrels, then completes aging in the bottle. The result is a balance between aromatic intensity, tannic structure, and continuity on the palate.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a garnet red color. The aromatic profile opens with violet and dried flowers, then moves to raspberry and currant, with hints of aromatic herbs adding depth. On the palate it is intense and structured, with dense and mature tannins guiding the flavor development. The finish is complex and persistent, consistent with large barrel aging and fruit precision.
Food pairing
At the table, it pairs well with rich dishes, where its structure and tannins best accompany slow-cooked and succulent meats. It is ideal with red wine braised meat, with stews, and with game preparations, especially when the cooking sauce concentrates flavors and intensity. The pairing enhances the wine’s persistence and aromatic depth.
When to serve it
This red is suitable for occasions when a complete tasting is desired, ideal at the table with important courses and unhurried atmospheres. Its structure, complexity, and mature tannic texture make it also suitable for further aging in the cellar, maintaining depth and definition over time. It can already be appreciated for its intensity and persistence, especially on occasions featuring meat dishes and long preparations.
