Description
What type of wine is it
Barolo Riserva San Bernardo is a dry red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Complex and firmly built, it has vigorous tannins and a long, citrus-driven finish. It’s a Riserva crafted for those seeking a structured Barolo to pair with substantial dishes.
Where it comes from
It is produced by the Palladino winery, founded in 1974 in Serralunga d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe. The vineyard covers about two hectares, between 330 and 390 meters in elevation, with an east to southeast exposure, on calcareous-clay soils. The winery makes it only in the best vintages.
How it is made
The Nebbiolo grapes, including the Lampia and Michet sub-varieties, are trained to single Guyot and harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine then ages for at least 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a garnet red. The nose weaves together a vegetal component with red fruits, licorice, notes of pepper and truffle. On the palate it reveals vigorous tannins, opening into a persistent, citrus-driven finish.
What it pairs with
Pairs well with roasts and braises, with game and game birds. It also complements powerful, aged cheeses, including blue-veined varieties.
When to serve it
A red for special-occasion meals, suited to dinners centered on meat, game, and aged cheeses. Its structure and vigorous tannins make it suitable for long cellaring.
