Description

What kind of wine it is

Las Lamas is a red wine from Bierzo, Spain, produced by Descendientes de J. Palacios and made from Mencía grapes. It originates from a single vineyard and has an intense profile, featuring material density and lively freshness. Aging in new French oak barriques gives it depth, clear tannic definition and aromatic complexity, while maintaining precise balance.

Origin

It comes from Bierzo, Spain, from a one-hectare vineyard with a southern exposure. The vines are over sixty years old and their roots sink into schist and clay soils, a combination that ensures a solid structural texture. The small size of the parcel and the approach based on low yields concentrate the fruit, defining a character that is faithful to its terroir of origin.

How it is made

After fermentation, the wine undergoes extended aging for sixteen to eighteen months in French oak barriques. This stage in wood is crucial for the development of taste richness, as it enhances complexity and encourages a final sense of balance.

Tasting notes

To the eye, it displays good color concentration, reflecting its structured style. On the nose, clear aromas of ripe fruit emerge, enriched by a delicate hint of aromatic herbs and subtle nuances from the wood. On the palate, it is dense and velvety, supported by deep but balanced tannins, with a long, enveloping finish and a pleasant freshness.

Food pairings

It pairs naturally with red meat dishes, game recipes and selections of aged cheeses. Its dense texture and fresh finish create a great synergy with flavorful and succulent preparations, perfectly integrating with the protein component. A very traditional pairing is roast lamb, which enhances the persistence on the palate and the wine's aromatic nuances.

When to serve it

It is the ideal choice for accompanying an important table and rich dishes. The wine’s solid backbone ensures a steady profile that expresses itself best with a short oxygenation before serving in the glass. It can be enjoyed in its current youth to appreciate its freshness, or set aside for cellar aging to encourage an interesting evolution over time.
