Description

Since 1843 the Grande Cuvée has been the embodiment of the excellence that Joseph Krug, founder of the Maison, sought for his customers. Since then, a new edition of Grande Cuvée has been created every year to offer the best expression of Champagne.

The 167th edition, produced with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grapes, is a cuvée of 191 wines from 13 different vintages, from 1995 to 2011, to complete which, the Maison has resorted to its wide range of reserve wines, which make up more than 40% of the final assembly. Aging on the lees has lasted for about 7 years.

Chef de Cave Eric Lebel for this cuvée selected wines from Mareuil-sur-Ay, on the Montagne de Reims, for their broad expression of the fruit, to which Pinot Noir from Ambonnay, Ay and Bouzy was added to confer structure. The reserve wines, which bring finesse and mature elegance, come from Verzenay. The fruity Meunier was grown in Sainte-Gemme, while Chardonnay comes from the Côte des Blancs and more precisely from Chouilly and Oger, where this grape variety best expresses its character.

The Grande Cuvée 167ème Édition is characterized by a golden yellow color. The nose opens with notes of toasted bread, hazelnut, nougat, barley candies and fruit jelly, accompanied by hints of apples, ripe and dried fruit, almonds, marzipan, gingerbread, sweet spices, brioche and honey. On the palate it is exceptionally fresh, with rich flavors of grapefruit and lemon.

Perfect as an aperitif, it is very versatile in combinations and can be accompanied by seasoned Jabugo and Comté ham, extra-aged Parmesan, oysters, grilled scampi, Indian or Moroccan dishes, as well as desserts such as carrot cake, tarte tatin or cheese cake. Sublime in the combination with truffle.
