Description
The Cirò Rosso Classico from Tenuta del Conte is a red wine made exclusively from Gaglioppo grapes grown in the Cirò area. The Armirìa and Marinetto vineyards, trained to spur-pruned cordon, grow on clay-loam soils composed of sandy and calcareous clays, in a Mediterranean environment that imparts character, balance and a strong sense of place to the wine.
Fermentation occurs spontaneously with yeasts prepared via pied de cuve, while malolactic fermentation takes place naturally. Only the free-run must is used, obtained after a maceration of about fifteen days without the addition of chemical or synthetic products, followed by maturation in stainless steel and further bottle ageing.
In the glass it shows a ruby-red color, with an aromatic profile evoking red fruits, Mediterranean herbs, spices and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate it is fresh and dry, with firm tannins, a balanced structure and a long, savory, saline finish.
Pairs well with pasta dishes with ragù, roasted meats, game, cured meats and aged cheeses.
