Description

What kind of wine it is

The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Domaine des Héritiers, produced by Louis Jadot, is a white wine from Burgundy made from Chardonnay grapes. It features a full-bodied and structured style, supported by freshness and notable mineral tension. The vinification and subsequent aging in wood highlight the Chardonnay, perfectly integrating volume and finesse. The result is a Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru that unites power and balance and authentically represents its original terroir.

Where it comes from

The appellation extends between the communes of Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses, in the northern sector of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. The vineyards, part of the estate’s legacy since the nineteenth century, are located in the heart of this revered area and benefit from a favorable southern exposure. This privileged position encourages optimal and consistent grape ripening, ensuring the wine has deep aromatic intensity and a recognizable mineral signature.

How it is produced

The grapes are carefully hand-harvested to preserve the integrity of the bunches destined for pressing. After crushing, alcoholic fermentation takes place entirely in oak barriques, of which about one third are new, a process allowing for controlled, measured oxygenation. The journey continues with 15 months of aging in the same wooden containers—a fundamental phase that consolidates the wine’s complexity and encourages integration between the natural freshness and delicate roasted notes.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it appears with a straw yellow color, featuring a brightness consistent with its time in wood. On the nose, it develops a complex aromatic profile, marked by pronounced hints of ripe white-fleshed fruit and citrus, accompanied by distinct mineral overtones and subtle accents of toasted oak. On the palate, it is powerful yet always well-balanced, offering a broad structure and a continuous progression. The finish is long and persistent with citrus back notes and a clean closure.

Food pairings

Its substantial structure and long persistence make this white wine ideal for accompanying rich fish dishes and preparations with robust flavors. It pairs perfectly with crustaceans, especially when served in creamy sauces that enhance the natural softness of the grape, and also complements baked main courses with the addition of butter. Its notable mineral component and complex aromatic weave also create harmonious and balanced pairings with various types of blue cheeses.

When to serve it

It is the suggested choice to accompany important and substantial courses during occasions that call for a structured wine with great character. When served chilled, but not excessively cold, it best expresses the aromatic complexity acquired through wood aging. Thanks to careful vinification, it has an excellent potential for cellar aging, making it suitable both for immediate enjoyment and for extended aging over several years.
