What kind of wine is it
Etna Sul Vulcano Rosato by Donnafugata is a Sicilian rosé wine, representative of the Etna Rosato denomination, made from Nerello Mascalese grapes. This wine embodies a fresh and crisp style, defined by a pronounced mineral profile and a lively structure. The winemaking process aims to preserve the primary aromas and the purity of the fruit, resulting in an elegant, immediate drinking experience that clearly expresses its origins.
Where does it come from
This wine originates from eastern Sicily, on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, between the municipalities of Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards are planted on soils with a volcanic sandy texture that enhances a distinctive sensation of profound minerality on the palate. The production context is closely linked to the active volcano, an unmistakable element that imparts a unique identity to the Nerello Mascalese, emphasizing great freshness and precision.
How is it made
Harvesting is done by hand using small crates, with careful selection of the bunches to preserve the fruit’s purity. After picking, the grapes undergo a period of cold maceration followed by fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures. The wine then matures in tank for three months, keeping the influence of the volcanic soils intact, before finishing with at least two months of bottle aging.
Tasting notes
In appearance, it shows a bright pale pink color. The nose reveals delicate floral hints of wisteria, accompanied by fruity notes of plum and pink grapefruit. On the palate, it stands out for its marked freshness and refined minerality, supporting a sip that remains precise and lively through to a consistent, pleasantly light finish.
Food pairings
The vibrant acidity of this rosé is perfect for accompanying raw shellfish, where its savory character balances the sea’s sweetness. It pairs effortlessly with vegetarian cuisine, thanks to a profile that highlights vegetables and light dishes. It’s also a spot-on match with Asian cuisine.
When to serve it
This label is ideal for casual gatherings and occasions where a dynamic, easy-drinking wine is desired. It’s the right choice when looking for a ready-to-drink wine, where the balance between tank and bottle aging enhances its savory quality. Best enjoyed young, so its aromatic clarity takes center stage for a freshness-driven experience.
