Description
Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille by Olivier Leflaive is a highly elegant white wine produced in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, from Chardonnay grapes grown on limestone-marl soils rich in stones, situated in the upper part of the hill at an altitude between approximately 320 and 380 meters. This terroir, close to Corton-Charlemagne and protected by the hill of Notre-Dame de Bonne Espérance, is renowned for its ability to produce refined and mineral wines, the result also of attentive and sustainable viticulture with manual harvesting and significantly mature vines.
The vinification process includes partial pressing of the grapes followed by static settling for about 24 hours, with alcoholic and malolactic fermentations carried out in oak barrels. The ageing lasts around 12 months entirely in wood, part of which is new, including a blending period on fine lees that helps develop complexity and structure while preserving precision and balance.
The nose reveals lively notes of citrus, including pink grapefruit and lemon zest, accompanied by a subtle minerality; the palate is direct and well-structured, with pronounced freshness and tension supporting a fine, precise and persistent flavour profile.
It pairs perfectly with goat cheeses, almond crostini, savory mushroom tarts and delicate fish such as pan-seared turbot.
