Description

The Primitivo di Manduria from Masseria Ficarigna is born from the love for the Salento land and the goal to enhance it starting from its wines. The winery's name is inspired by one of the region’s symbolic fruits, the prickly pear, originally from Mexico. The snake depicted on the label recalls an ancient Aztec legend according to which the nomads from the north would stop their journey when encountering a prickly pear plant growing from the crack of a rock with an eagle feeding on a snake above it.

A pure Primitivo, the harvest takes place at the end of September. Fermentation occurs with temperature-controlled maceration, followed by aging in medium-toast oak barriques for 4 months.

In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red color. The bouquet unveils intense and complex aromas of ripe red fruit, including prominent cherry and raspberry, in balanced harmony with toasted notes and bitter cocoa. On the palate, it is dry, warm, smooth, and persistent, with a faithful return of the sensations perceived on the nose.

Excellent when paired with grilled meats and hard cheeses. A must-try with chestnuts.
