Description

What type of wine it is

Puglia Negroamaro-Primitivo by Masseria Ficarigna is a wine with an enveloping character, obtained from a careful blend of Negroamaro and Primitivo. This red stands out for its structured style, characterized by a fruity aromatic profile integrated with spicy nuances. The brand’s identity is deeply rooted in the local territory: the name refers to the prickly pear, and the label depicts a Garganica goat, a breed from Apulia. The winery’s approach aims to preserve freshness and offers a clear expression of the grape varieties for a sip with defined lines.

Where it comes from

This red is born in the heart of Apulia, within the renowned Salento area, a territory that offers optimal conditions for viticulture. The rows of vines benefit from plentiful sunshine and constant ventilation, essential for healthy grapes. The vineyards of Masseria Ficarigna rest on calcareous-clay soils, whose composition favors a balance between sugar ripening and fruit definition. The combination of intense light and compact soils grants the wine a deep color and rich texture on the palate.

How it is produced

The process begins with fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, for about eight to ten days. During this stage, maceration on the skins takes place, which is fundamental to extracting the color and aromatic components in a balanced manner. The wine then continues its journey with a three-month maturation in steel. This precise technical choice avoids the influence of wood, encourages clean fermentation, and preserves the final product’s linear, fruity signature.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays an intense ruby-red color, enlivened by bright violet reflections. On the nose, it releases an aromatic bouquet centered on ripe red fruits, with clear notes of cherry and plum, accompanied by hints of sweet spices, tobacco, and licorice. On the palate, it is soft and velvety, supported by a framework of balanced tannins that accompany the tasting harmoniously. The finish is pleasantly long, echoing both the fruity and spicy aromas perceived on the nose.

What to pair it with

The structure and smoothness on the palate make this red an ideal companion for red meats and game. It enhances rich first courses and harmoniously pairs with aged cheeses, where its balanced tannins and aromatic intensity complement the savory and bold elements of the meal. It is the perfect match for traditional Apulian cuisine: the classic combination with orecchiette al ragù creates a precise harmony between the succulence of the sauce, ripe fruit, and the delicate spices of the wine.

When to serve it

It’s a perfect choice for convivial moments, as it is a full-bodied yet easy-drinking red. Thanks to its immediate fruity profile, highlighted by exclusive steel processing, it is suitable for relaxed dinners. At the same time, its solid structure and well-balanced tannins make it ideal for traditional lunches and complex dishes. It maintains consistent expression from the first sip to the long finish, offering a tasting experience where freshness and fruit stay at the center.
