Description
What kind of wine is it
Summa di Portia is a red wine from Ribera del Duero, produced exclusively from pure Tempranillo. It is made with a structure-oriented approach, designed for remarkable evolution over time. Fermentation takes place in untoasted French barriques, a technical choice preserving the aromatic profile. Ageing in wood continues to provide the glass with great complexity and persistence.
Where does it come from
The grapes come from the Fuentellamas estate, located in the Ribera del Duero. The century-old vineyard lies at more than eight hundred and fifty metres above sea level and is characterized by a harsh continental climate. The vines grow on their own roots in poor, sandy soils, a rare condition that naturally limits yields. This extreme environment produces small, concentrated clusters, ideal for intense and long-lived red wines.
How is it produced
The vinification of Tempranillo includes fermentation inside untoasted French barriques, with manual rotation and frequent bâtonnage to manage extraction. The wine ages for twelve months in the same barrels and continues maturing for another six months in new barriques. The entire process excludes the use of artificial stabilization, a choice reflecting the winery’s strong philosophy of minimal intervention.
Tasting notes
The wine shows a deep colour, enhanced by garnet highlights. The nose reveals elegant aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and plum, accompanied by balanced spicy and toasted notes that maintain clarity. On the palate, it is perfectly balanced, supported by lively acidity and fine tannins. The finish is marked by a long persistence, enriched with pleasant hints of balsamic and fruit.
Pairings
This label finds its natural match alongside rich game dishes or braised meats. The solid structure of the wine pairs perfectly with long-cooked dishes, making it ideal for venison stew or a classic traditional roast lamb. At the end of the meal, its flavour intensity also effectively balances a refined selection of aged cheeses.
When to serve it
The fullness of this red makes it the ideal choice for important dinners and to accompany rich, structured menus. Thanks to the age of the vines and the prolonged ageing in barrels, the wine has excellent potential for bottle ageing, allowing it to further evolve over time. Its remarkable persistence makes it an excellent choice for the colder seasons, offering a rewarding tasting experience.
