Description

What type of wine is it

Viña del Olivo by Contino is a red wine from Rioja crafted from Tempranillo and Graciano. It displays a structured and complex style, with balanced flavors and elegant tannins. Winemaking includes fermentation in stainless steel and concrete, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French and American oak barriques. These technical choices create a harmonious texture and support positive aging in bottle.

Where does it come from

The wine comes from Rioja, growing on clay-limestone soils surrounding an ancient olive tree, a symbol of the estate. The area boasts a long tradition of winemaking and offers elegant, long-lived wines tied to the local viticultural heritage.

How is it produced

Grapes are hand-harvested, with selection in the vineyard and transport in 300 kg crates to preserve their integrity. A cooling phase maintains aromatic freshness, followed by optical sorting of the grapes. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in small stainless steel and concrete tanks at controlled temperatures, then malolactic fermentation occurs in barriques. The wine matures for 18 months in French and American oak barriques.

Tasting notes

It appears deep ruby red with purple highlights. The aromatic profile is complex, featuring ripe wild berries, plum, and cherry, along with spices such as black pepper and liquorice, as well as subtle vanilla and oak toast notes. On the palate, it shows body and structure, with smooth, well-integrated tannins, fresh acidity, and a persistent finish echoing the fruity and spicy sensations.

Food pairings

It pairs well with grilled red meats, game stews, and aged cheeses. Its structure and persistence enhance the intense flavors of meat and mature cheeses, making it versatile for many gastronomic occasions.

Serving suggestions

It is best served in large glasses, allowing for oxygenation that enhances its aromatic expression. Its balanced structure and tannins make it enjoyable immediately for its fruity character or allow for aging, gaining complexity and harmony. It suits both casual gatherings and special occasions, offering a tasting experience that evolves over time.
