Description
Faustino I Gran Reserva is one of the most emblematic labels of Rioja, produced from a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo grapes primarily cultivated in the Rioja Alavesa area. The vineyards, located between 450 and 600 meters above sea level, are on clay-limestone soils and have yields that are 30% lower than the area's average, thus favoring a higher concentration of quality in the harvested grapes.
The grapes are selected directly in the vineyard and then manually sorted in the winery. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place at controlled temperatures in tanks, with various pump-overs to achieve better aromatic and tannic extraction. The wine ages for at least 10 years, including at least 30 months in first, second, and third-pass French and American oak barrels, to maintain the fruit's freshness. The remaining aging takes place in the bottle.
In appearance, it shows a deep ruby color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers a complex and elegant bouquet with hints of ripe fruit like plum and cherry, accompanied by sweet spices, tobacco, and toffee notes. The palate is full, fruity, and structured, with touches of black fruits and spices, supported by excellent acidity and well-integrated tannins, leading to a long and persistent finish.
It pairs perfectly with grilled red meats or aged cheeses and is also ideal with mushroom-based dishes or tomato sauces.
