Description

What kind of wine is it

SurSur by Donnafugata is a white wine made from Grillo grapes, sourced from the south-western area of the island. The production area falls under the Sicilia denomination, an expression of a terroir that enhances the aromatic definition of the grape variety. It matures first in stainless steel and then in the bottle, maintaining a very precise technical profile. The style of this white is fresh and clean, characterized by a smooth taste and a well-integrated savouriness that enhances its drinkability.

Where it comes from

The vineyards used for this production are located in the inland hills between the towns of Marsala and Salemi, in the heart of south-western Sicily. The selected plots allow the native variety to express itself with great clarity and develop a crisp, distinctive character. From these inland hills comes a wine in which the herbaceous notes and fruity sensations are precisely delineated. The geographic reference within the province of Trapani pinpoints the exact territorial origin of the bottle.

How it is produced

The grapes are hand-picked and selected during the last days of August, a crucial step to preserve the integrity of the raw material. After gentle pressing, the must begins fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 14 and 16 °C. This production choice ensures a clean process and the preservation of all the aromatic nuances. Once fermentation is complete, maturation continues in steel for two months, then finishes with a further three months of bottle ageing.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it shows a bright straw yellow colour, reflecting care and precision in processing. The bouquet is broad and intense, featuring pronounced hints of peach, wildflowers, and fresh cut grass. The entry on the palate is clean and soft, supported by a regular taste development. The finish remains balanced, leaving a crisp sensation in line with the scents perceived on the nose.

Food pairings

Thanks to its roundness and savoury notes, this wine easily accompanies various seafood appetizers and original gourmet sandwiches. Its aromatic profile, based on fruit and herbaceous notes, makes this white especially suitable with vegetarian first courses. Its balance also makes it a fitting choice for grilled fish, as it enhances simple preparations and grilled dishes without overpowering the primary flavours.

When to serve

This label is meant as a ready-to-drink white, ideal to be enjoyed in its freshest and most immediate expression once bottle ageing is completed. It is perfect for convivial moments and shared meals, offering a refreshing and satisfying sip. The notes of peach, wildflowers, and its marked drinkability make it suitable for occasions where balanced wines are preferred—wines able to accompany the meal with consistency and style.
