Description
What kind of wine is it?
Estate Reserve by Morgenster is a South African red wine, made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon with a small addition of Petit Verdot. It is a Bordeaux blend with a full, tidy profile, crafted to combine structure and softness. The ageing in French oak barriques leaves a perceptible aromatic imprint and contributes to a mature and refined style, with soft tannins and a persistent finish.
Where does it come from?
It originates in South Africa, in the Stellenbosch area, considered one of the best regions in the country for structured red wines. The bond with the territory is reflected in a concentrated and balanced style, consistent with a Bordeaux-inspired blend. The result aims to offer balance and solidity, maintaining a clear and readable flavour profile.
How is it produced?
Production begins with constant attention to the vine cycle and grape ripening, so that only the best bunches are brought to the cellar at harvest time. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a small proportion of Petit Verdot are vinified to achieve a balanced blend. The wine ages for 18 months in French oak barriques, partly new, with the aromatic contribution of the wood clearly present, accompanying the tannic texture.
Tasting notes
Deep intense ruby red in colour. The nose offers hints of ripe dark fruit and jam, followed by notes of coffee and tobacco within a defined framework. On the palate, it is full-bodied and balanced, with steady progression; the tannins are soft and pleasant, supporting a harmonious and persistent sip.
What to pair it with
It pairs well with richly flavoured meat dishes and slow-cooked preparations, which enhance its structure and soft tannins. It is ideal with roast kid and braised game, where the succulence and intensity of the meat find a perfect match in the ripe profile of the wine and its toasted notes.
When to serve it
It is suitable when a red of good intensity is desired for important lunches and meat-based dinners. Its structure and barrique ageing also make it enjoyable in more intimate moments, allowing time in the glass to develop aromas and texture. Serving it on a special occasion highlights its balance, richness, and persistence.
