Description

What kind of wine is it

Südtirol - Alto Adige Valle Isarco Müller Thurgau by Alois Lageder is a white wine made from Müller Thurgau grapes grown in Valle Isarco. The winemaking process includes gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, followed by aging on fine lees. The result is a fresh and linear style with clear varietal aromas, good roundness on the palate, and a lively finish. Its moderate structure and aromatic component make it versatile as an aperitif and at the table.

Where does it come from

The grapes come from vineyards between Bressanone, Chiusa, and Signato in the heart of the Valle Isarco. This narrow and breezy valley experiences significant temperature variations that help preserve acidity and aromatic precision. Alluvial and detrital soils, rich in porphyry and minerals, foster precise and lively profiles, while altitude and the alpine climate enhance the wine’s clean and fragrant character.

How is it produced

Harvest takes place between late September and early October with careful grape selection to preserve freshness and aromatic ripeness. After gentle pressing, the must is clarified and ferments in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, keeping the grape's aromatic compounds intact. There is no prolonged skin maceration; the winery favors finesse and smoothness. About four months of aging on fine lees, with occasional stirring, increases volume and stability without weighing down the profile.

Tasting notes

A straw yellow color with greenish highlights. On the nose, notes of light-fleshed fruit, hints of ripe fruit, and the typical nutmeg nuance of Müller Thurgau emerge, along with floral hints and a mineral perception. The palate is balanced and full, with well-integrated acidity and a linear progression. The finish remains fresh, aromatic, and dry, with fruity returns that invite another sip.

Pairings

It easily accompanies aperitifs and starters seeking freshness and savoriness. Excellent with vegetables, warm salads, grilled or steamed fish dishes, shellfish, and delicate preparations. In Alto Adige, it pairs very well with spinach canederli topped with melted butter, thanks to its palate-cleansing ability. Also great with trout “alla mugnaia” or lightly stewed fish, where acidity and the aromatic finish enhance the main ingredient.

When to serve it

It is recommended to drink it young to best enjoy the freshness and aromatic definition of Valle Isarco. Serve chilled, around 8–10°C, in medium-sized glasses to enhance the varietal aromas. Ideal for informal moments, well-prepared aperitifs, seafood dinners, or mountain lunches with vegetarian dishes. With proper storage, the wine retains its balance for a few years and offers fragrance with consistent flavor.
