Description
The Toscana Tenuta Tignanello Solaia by Marchesi Antinori originates from the vineyard of the same name located in the Chianti Classico area and is produced only in exceptional vintages.
It is made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Franc grapes, harvested from the end of September until mid-October. Once in the winery, the bunches are delicately destemmed and the berries carefully selected before crushing. Fermentation and maceration take place in 60 hl truncated conical tanks, then the wine is placed in barriques for malolactic fermentation to enhance its finesse and pleasantness. It is then aged in French and Hungarian oak barrels for about 18 months, after which the various lots, vinified separately based on the variety, are blended to create the final blend.
1998 Vintage
In 1998, Tuscany experienced a hot summer that favored a slow and regular ripening of the grapes, allowing optimal flavor development without compromising their natural acidity. This balance made possible the production of an elegant and intense Solaia, with a harmonious combination of strength and refinement.
Visually, it presents a deep ruby red. The nose offers a rich and layered bouquet with hints of blackcurrant, vanilla, earth, tobacco, and a hint of mint. On the palate, it is dense and structured, with well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish. Thanks to its solidity and balance, it has shown excellent aging ability, maintaining complexity and freshness over time.
