Description
What kind of wine is it
Torre Pieve Chardonnay by Tenuta Santa Maria is a white wine made from Chardonnay grapes grown in Val d’Illasi, east of Verona, with the geographical indication Verona. The winemaking process alternates between temperature-controlled stainless steel and new medium-toast barriques, followed by blending, resulting in a style with good structure and well-integrated freshness and savoriness.
Where does it come from
This wine originates from the vineyards of Tenuta Santa Maria in the Val d’Illasi, a hilly area in the Verona region located east of Verona. The origin of the grapes in this valley defines the wine’s character and clarifies its provenance within the provincial context of Verona.
How is it produced
The grapes are handpicked between the first and second week of September, then pressed and subjected to cold settling. Fermentation takes place half in stainless steel and half in new medium-toast barriques for around 150 days, during which a first aging also occurs. After the blending of the batches, the wine is further aged for about 6 months in stainless steel and an additional 4 months in the bottle.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a straw yellow colour with light greenish hues. The nose reveals intense and fruity aromas, reminiscent of exotic fruit such as pineapple and banana, along with hints of vanilla, hazelnut, and melted butter. On the palate it offers good structure, with a clean balance between freshness and savoriness.
Food pairings
It pairs easily with light appetizers and first courses based on fish, where freshness and savoriness accompany delicate preparations without overpowering the aromas. Its taste profile and the notes from the barrique aging also make it suitable for recipes with softer components, while maintaining a balanced profile.
When to serve it
It is recommended when looking for a white wine to accompany a fish-based meal, from appetizers to main courses, ensuring consistency between freshness and structure. Its fruity character and barrique notes make it suitable for both lunches and dinners, especially when a neat and well-rounded expression of the grape variety is desired, thanks to steel aging and bottle refinement.
