Castellare and Rocca di Frassinello
Castellare di Castellina is the historic and counted Chianti winery owned by Paolo Panerai born in 1968 from the union of four farms around Castellina in Chianti.
The company is among the most sought after today in the entire Chianti Classico terroir , with products of the caliber of Tuscany IGT I Sodi di San Niccolò , a great classic, whose fame is testified by the enormous amount of awards received: the vintage 2013 turned out to be Best Italian Red Wine 2018 , based on the sum of the scores of the major Italian and international wine guides.
From Castellare derives also the idea of Rocca di Frassinello , born as an Italian-French joint venture between Castellare and Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite - one of the most prestigious brands of the world wine panorama - which constitutes the first experiment of this kind in Italy.
In a particular area of Tuscany, the one between the municipalities of Gavorrano and Roccastrada, where there is a terroir very similar to that of the Chianti Classico of Castellare and Montalcino , Panerai and Rothschild have decided to join forces to create something unique : l experience of the former in Sangiovese and the latter in the typical Bordeaux varieties, such as Merlot , Cabernet and Petit Verdot , together with a terroir similar to that of Chianti, but which differs in terms of higher average temperatures, have led to the creation of products that they immediately became cult of Tuscan oenology and beyond .
Among these, the Maremma Toscana IGT Baffonero , a splendid example of pure Merlot, which garnered prizes - among others, 98 points by Luca Maroni in the 2014 vintage , 95 by Robert Parker for 2013 and 94 by Wine Spectator in the 2015. Maremma Toscana IGT Rocca di Frassinello is also a wine that has received the approval of lovers and critics from all over the world, such as Robert Parker who awarded him 95 points for the 2013 vintage and Luca Maroni who instead evaluated the 2014 vintage with 91 points .
